The back story: Crater Lake National park rests in the southern portion of Oregon within the Cascade Mountain Range. The Crater is the remnants of a now collapsed volcano, Mount Mazama. At a depth of 1,949 ft the lake is the deepest in the United States, the lake is circled by an impressive ring of cliffs stretching 20 miles long. The cylinder cone forming an island within the lake is known as Wizard Island.
