The back story: Yosemite was initially protected in 1864, however, did not become a national park until October 1890. Known for adventures such as climbing half dome, hiking, camping and much more. Yosemite is also known for its abundant wildlife such as the black bear, mule deer, and mountain lions. John Muir had a large impact on the development and early conservation in Yosemite.
