The back story: In 1934 Congress was persuaded to establish Everglades National Park. However, it took another 13 years to establish the park in 1947. The park is 1.5 million acres of wetlands preserved on the southern tip of Florida protecting thousand of animal and plant species. Once abundant, the Florida panther is in danger of extinction with its numbers less than 100 remaining in the wild.
