The back story: The Pacific Crest Trail spans 2,650 miles from Mexico to Canada through California, Oregon, and Washington. It is a national scenic trail crossing the Sierra Nevada mountain ranges to the volcanic peaks of the Cascade Range. Designated a national scenic trail in 1968, it was originally conceived by Clinton Churchill Clarke in 1932 and not officially completed until 1993.
